Google for Jobs: Free Placement Most Carriers Are Missing

July 8, 2026 · 5 min

When somebody searches for driving work in your area, Google often shows a panel of job listings directly in the results — above the organic links and, in many searches, above the ads. That placement is free. It is not an advertising product and there is nothing to bid on.

Most carriers are not in it, for one reason: their job pages do not carry the structured data Google needs in order to read them as job postings.

What structured data is doing here

Structured data is a block of code on the page that describes the content in a format search engines parse directly. A human reading your careers page can tell it is a job listing. A crawler needs to be told explicitly — this is the title, this is the location, this is the employment type, this is the salary, this is the date it was posted.

Google publishes the specification for job postings, and if your page carries a valid one, it becomes eligible for the jobs panel. There is no application and no approval queue.

Getting it right

One page per opening. A single careers page listing eight positions cannot be marked up cleanly. Each opening needs its own URL.

Include the fields that matter. Job title, hiring organisation, physical location, employment type, and the date posted. Salary is optional but listings that include it get noticeably more engagement — and for driver roles where pay is the primary filter, leaving it out costs you.

Keep the posting date current. Google demotes and eventually drops stale listings. If a position is still open after several weeks, the posting needs refreshing.

Remove closed positions properly. Delete the page or mark the posting expired. Leaving filled roles live wastes applicant attention and damages your standing in the panel.

Validate before you rely on it. Google's Rich Results Test will tell you whether the markup parses. Search Console reports on it once the pages are indexed.

Where it fits

Google for Jobs catches drivers who are actively looking right now and have decided to search. That is a different group from the drivers Meta reaches, who are mostly not looking yet but are open to a better offer.

Neither replaces the other. But one of them is free, and it is the one most carriers have not set up.
